Labour wont support Pauline in Splott against the Incinerator

Two Candidates support CATI against the Incinerator
Splott By-election.
Only UKIP and TUSC candidates - Brian Morris and Katrine Williams  - are concerned to oppose the Viridor waste Incinerator, bringing wastes from over S-E Wales to burn in our city.
The Lib-Dems started the project and Labour continued it with Tory support; all want to give Viridor a long-term contract to burn the city's waste, despite the toxic fumes, waste lorries trucking through the city and huge tonnages of incinerator ash with toxic dust.  Apart from Neil McEvoy for Plaid, Cardiff politicians rubber-stamped a Viridor contract of several £100 millions for 25-years.  Extraordinary irresponsibility with Council funds, and in contracting for tonnages far higher than expected to be produced in future years. Result of brown envelopes or blind party-voting?

CATI hasnt heard anything from  the labour candidate who works for a Islwyn Labour AM Gwyn Price. As soon as Labour got into office they voted to privatise residual waste Prosiect Gwyrdd - without any scrutiny, locking Cardiff into payments for burning waste for the next 25 years in a PFI style contract. Labours Gretta Marshall, Luke Holland and Huw Thomas all failed to vote against it. Surprise! Russell Goodway is chair of the 5 council Prosiect Gwyrdd group.

No support either from FibDem Jamie Matthews  or Tory Daniel Mason
Nearby Bayside Estate resident Pauline Ellaway, supported by CATI, is taking Cardiff Council to the Cardiff High Court on 17-18 December.

High Court order to Cardiff Council STOP VIRIDOR

Case to force Cardiff to Stop Viridor's Incinerator building to go to Court
The High Court judge agreed yesterday, 7th Feb. to order "expedition" of the case..

Both Cardiff Council and Viridor opposed this, seeking to delay the case for the Planning Committee scheduled for 13th February.

Said Max Wallis for CATI: "This was delaying tactics.  The officers do not propose enforcement but approval of defective applications outstanding since August. This cannot rectify Viridor's unlawful development."

Pauline Ellaway, a Splott resident who is fronting the case for CATI said:
"We are pleased the Court has rejected Cardiff's request for further delay, when they should have acted 6 months ago"

CATI has repeatedly asked for enforcement action since the start of work on 20 July.  The law firm Richard Buxton demanded action again in December, when the officers agreed a compromise of taking the issue to the Committee of 9th January.  They turned down the request for an immediate Stop Order, on the bais that little w2ork was to be done over the Xams/New year period.

The Planning committee failed to take action** on 9th February, by chairman's casting vote, despite strong pleas from Splott councillors, Huw Thomas, Luke Holland and Gretta Marshall.

Papers for the 13 Feb. Planning Committee should be available later today.  But whatever transpires at that Committee, the case will be up in Court within 2 or 3 weeks.

Cardiff - One planet city?

WASTE Greenwash

One planet living document states 'We will be turning our waste into energy. Prosiect Gwyrdd will deal with over 40% of South Wales’ waste, turning waste which cannot be recycled or composted into both electricity for the national grid and heat, which can be used in district heating schemes'

False statment and Misleading information. No mention of the INCINERATOR word. Incineration turns waste into toxic ash and atmospheric pollutants (CO2, NOx, particulates and trace toxic metals, dioxins etc.). The approved Viridor incinerator is only 20-22% energy efficient, its heat will be wasted not used in district heating for which cardiff plans zilch.

P Gwyrdd is the most inefficient way to “deal with” municipal waste. Cardiff incontracting PG over 40% of its waste is abandoning policy to maximise recycling – accepted to be much better than incineration in resources, CO2 and ecological footprint.

Cardiff's contract to PG also disregards WG target to reduce waste to 2050 by 1.2% per person pa needed to meet the One Planet target. Cardiff's waste projections assume zero reduction in waste arisings per person, which by 2050 amounts to twice the WG's 'One Planet' waste.

The PGwyrdd Incinerator policy does not fit the 'One Planet' target for the city's municipal waste.
